    About the Career

    Routine production assembly operations and inspection on structural and mechanical assemblies, subassemblies and systems, equipment and accessories using manual operations is a large part of an aircraft assemblers work. They may also verify accuracy of work performed and may conduct self-inspection duties, performs function checks on installed systems and troubleshoot systems to ensure proper hookups, continuity and connections.

    On the Job You Will

    • Adjust, repair, rework, or replace parts and assemblies
    • Assemble prefabricated parts
    • Assemble, install, and connect parts, fittings, and assemblies on aircraft, using layout tools, hand tools, power tools, and fasteners such as bolts, screws, rivets, and clamps
    • Read and interpret blueprints, illustrations, and specifications to determine layouts, sequences of operations
    • Align and fit structural assemblies manually, or signal crane operators to position assemblies for joining
    • Cut, trim, file, bend, and smooth parts, and verify sizes and fitting tolerances in order to ensure proper fit
    • Join structural assemblies, such as wings, tails, or fuselage

    Education and Training

    High school diploma or GED equivalent required.

    Related Experience

    2 years of mechanical experience preferred.

    Job Training

    Ability to perform assembly and installation work using assembly, jigs, fixtures, test equipment, precision measuring instruments, and mechanics hand tools.
    Ability to read and understand technical documentation such as control sheets or engineering drawings.
